At Lockswood Dental Practice, we can provide you with a set of implant-retained dentures that will significantly enhance your ability to chew, speak, and smile.

These types of dentures are affixed over the top of multiple implants in each jaw. Your dentist will show you how to easily remove them for cleaning and explain the long-term aesthetic and functional benefits of implant-retained dentures over conventional dentures.

What are implant dentures?

Implant dentures combine the practicality of dentures with the gold standard in tooth replacement: dental implants.

Using a small number of implants, it is possible to anchor an entire row of teeth onto the jaw. The new titanium tooth roots (implants) simulate the functionality of real teeth. A set of custom-made dentures is then clipped or screwed into place over the top of the implants.

Implant dentures are suitable for:

  • Patients who have been long-term denture wearers and who would like to switch to a more stable dental restoration.
  • Patients who have never previously had dentures and would like to address gaps in their teeth.

How will implant dentures benefit me?

Enhanced stability
Implant dentures make everyday functions, such as chewing, biting, and talking, feel completely natural. If you have switched from conventional dentures to implant dentures, you won’t have to put up with any slipping and sliding teeth when you’re trying to speak and enjoy your favourite foods.

Beautifully crafted
Our state-of-the-art facilities are managed by experienced dentists who work closely with our partner technicians to create custom-made implant dentures. The lightweight and toothlike materials used will enhance your smile and support your facial composition.

Preservation of jawbone health
Placing implants to support a set of dentures provides the jaw with stimulation. This reduces the possibility of jawbone recession and the associated facial changes that can accompany this (the cheek area can become hollow as a result of jawbone loss).

Comfort
Implant dentures do not rely on adhesives, eliminating any potential discomfort as a result of rubbing.

Long-term solution
Your replacement tooth roots (the implants) have the potential to be permanent if well cared for. Your dentures will be made to precise specifications and with the craftsmanship to help them stand the test of time.

The implant dentures process

Step 1: Consultation
Your consultation is an opportunity to learn about the process and to meet our friendly implant dentists. They will go through all facets of the treatment journey and the associated costs. X-rays and CBCT scans are taken to confirm your suitability for treatment. In the event that you do not have sufficient bone volume or quality, your dentist may suggest a bone graft.

Step 2: Implant surgery
On your surgery day, the implants are placed into the jaw under local anaesthetic. A temporary set of dentures is provided to affix over the top of the implants whilst the healing period takes place.

Step 3: Permanent denture design
Your dentist will take digital dental impressions to create a model for our partner dental technician to use during the permanent denture design process.

Step 4: Permanent dentures fitting
Your dentist will invite you to come in to have your permanent dentures fitted. We will ensure your bite is correctly aligned and that they are the correct fit for your gum line.
