Extracting a tooth encompasses removing a tooth from its socket within the jawbone.

In the event that a tooth cannot be recovered with restorative treatment methods, your dentist here at Lockswood may advise that its removal (and, in many cases, replacement) is the most viable solution for ensuring the well-being of your oral health in the long term.

Why do I need a tooth extraction?

Your dentist will only ever deem a tooth extraction necessary when all other outcomes have been considered and explored.

In the following cases, a tooth extraction can be beneficial:

  • Decay has reached a stage where a tooth is beyond repair.
  • A tooth has become loose and can’t be repaired.
  • Wisdom teeth have become impacted or infected.
  • You have too many teeth crowding your mouth (extractions are sometimes performed prior to starting teeth straightening treatment).
  • You are suffering from a dental infection, and a root treatment is no longer possible.

In the hands of caring professionals

Today, a dental extraction is a very routine process that takes very little time. Our highly skilled and attentive dentists will ensure you are pain-free before, during and after the procedure. They will also ensure that you fully understand what to expect, so that nothing comes as a surprise to you.

A simple extraction is carried out when the tooth in question is visible above your gum line. This involves using forceps to gently free the tooth from its socket. Extractions involving teeth that are beneath the gum line are considered more complex and are deemed surgical extractions.

A healthy future
