A set of customised modern dentures provides a durable solution for patients who have lost multiple teeth or who wish to replace a set of dentures that no longer fit.

At Lockswood Dental Practice, our dentists will use cutting-edge materials and design methods to create dentures which reverse the frustration that can accompany living without teeth or a well-fitting dental restoration.

What are dentures?

Dentures are a removable tooth replacement treatment. They are false teeth fabricated using digital dental impressions of your mouth, and the shade of each individual tooth is matched to any existing teeth you have remaining.

The two types of conventional dentures are:

  • Partial dentures: Held in position with clasps around remaining teeth.
  • Complete dentures: Suitable for edentulous patients, and therefore, natural suction is used to stay in position.

Dentures remain a highly popular means of replacing lost teeth and can also be secured to dental implants for an even longer-lasting and more natural outcome.

How do dentures stay in place?

Dentures stay securely in place with the aid of either adhesives or suction. Adhesives fill gaps between the gum line and your dentures, which, in turn, creates a strong attachment between the two, preventing them from moving around when you speak and chew.

Suction occurs when the base of your dentures fits tightly against the gum line; saliva helps to adhere them in place, as an airtight seal holds them in position.

How will dentures benefit me?

Transform your lifestyle
Whether you’re replacing a couple of teeth or a whole arch of teeth, you will notice how much easier it is to chew, bite, speak clearly and care for your teeth. This adds up to a drastic lifestyle improvement.

Prevent oral health-related issues
Having a full set of teeth again will prevent a whole host of issues, including misalignment and increased vulnerability to decay, gum disease, and tooth wear.

Enhance your smile and facial structures
Dentures are customised to look completely in harmony with your face shape and gum line. Replacing lost teeth will also fill out your facial aesthetic, reversing the hollowing effect tooth loss can bring about, particularly in the cheek area.

Cost effective
Dentures are, and continue to be, one of the most economical solutions for tooth loss, particularly if you need to replace most of your natural teeth.

The dentures process

Step 1: Examination
At the first appointment, a full clinical examination (including X-rays) is performed. Your dentist will explain the features of dentures and why they might be compatible with your needs. Once you are happy to proceed with treatment, digital or non-digital dental impressions are taken as the basis of the design for your dentures.

Step 2: Denture fabrication
Your dentures are made by our partner dental technician, who works to detailed guidelines provided by your dentist.

Step 3: Denture fitting appointment
Once your dentures are ready, your dentist will request that you come in for a fitting appointment. Any small adjustments are made, and we’ll provide you with short-term and long-term aftercare information with a view to preserving your restoration for as long as possible.

At Lockwood Dental Practice, our focus is on preventive dentistry, helping you maintain your natural teeth for as long as possible.
